What
was your first experience in front of the camera like?
Sachin
Shroff: I had a terrible experience when I first faced the camera. My first
show was Kanyadaan. It took me 35 retakes to complete my first shot. Eventually,
I was thrown out after 4-5 episodes. I wouldn't blame the produce as I was a poor
actor then. I was so shattered that it took me three years before I made a comeback
with Shagun. Obviously, I'd also returned as a better actor.
Purbi
Joshi: I first faced the camera as a child artist in the show Faasle.
I was nervous but yet very excited. I got the shot right in the first take which
really made me feel proud. To get paid Rs.2500 was indeed a bonus. I gave all
the money to my mom. At home, the whole family rejoiced after watching me in the
show.
Manav
Gohil: My first show was Kahani Ghar Ghar Ki. You're expected to deliver
when working for such a show but I got it horribly wrong. I was nervous; had absolutely
no orientation of things. It took couple, actually more than a couple of retakes
to get my first shot right. Though, he wouldn't say it to you directly, but the
director often remarks "Isko kaha se uthake leke aagaye? (where have
you got him from). That hurts a lot but ye Kahanii hai har actor ki (that's
the story of every actor).
Preeti
Amin: I made an episodic appearance for a show on Doordarshan. I'm struggling
to remember the show's name now. It was an even bigger struggle to enact the first
shot. Though, I knew my dialogues, I kept forgetting the moment I faced the camera.
I took few retakes before I finally got it right.
Gaurav
Khanna: Well, before facing the camera for my first show, I had quite an interesting
experience when I first faced the camera. As a Marketing graduate, I'd come to
Mumbai to look for a corporate job. Thus, I never knew about anything about acting.
At the auditions, I was asked to speak on my profile. When it comes to profile,
we MBA students generally carry our mark sheets and other documents. So, when
I was asked at the auditions, I shot back saying that I've left my profile at
home!
When it came to facing the camera for my debut show (Siddhant),
I had to wait six hours before I could I give my first shot. Luckily, I got it
right at the second take.
