Is the TV industry callous and unkind?

Actress Manorama passed away on the 14 February and there were only four people from the industry on her last journey. The actress who had acted in about 150 films had a tragic end and though she was associated with the industry for so long no one came to bid her farewell.

We called up some senior telly stars to know if they felt it was indeed a callous industry that they worked in. Here is what they had to say.

Anju Mahendroo- It’s was very sad to read about the sudden demise of Manoramaji. My family and I were very friendly with her but we were not aware of the shocking news. I just knew that she was working with Balaji but I didn’t even know where she lived. I thought she must have gone to Delhi to be with her daughter.

You can’t blame the industry as people work for twenty four hours and it’s difficult to keep a tab on each and every thing happening.

Anoop Soni- I was not even aware of the downfall of Manoramaji. It’s sad to know that but personally I feel that one should not expect people to support them them forever. Personally, I don’t depend on anyone from the industry. I depend only on my family. You may become friends while doing a particular project but its difficult to maintain that relationship with such hectic schedules. I can only say that this should not happen to anyone else.

Apara Mehta- It’s really shocking to know that the veteran actress died and there were such few people who attended the funeral. I too came to know this just now. That’s the reason most of us who come from theatre always keep in touch so that when ever somebody needs us we can reach out. The television industry is too busy and even if people come to know about such tragedies they don’t have the time to reach out. The daily soaps leave us with no choice but to finish our work. It’s really sad to be left alone.

Aroona Irani- We did not have any idea of where she was. There was no information of how she was doing. There are so many artists and it’s really difficult to be in touch with all of them. She was aloof from everybody so its just impossible to know what happened to her. Somebody has got to inform us about this or no one will come to know. I feel sad for her.

Kanwaljit Singh- The way Manoramaji died was very sad but one has to accept it. It’s sad that only few people from the industry were present on her last journey. Another fact that is to be taken in consideration was that when she was alive how many friends did she have. I’m not being cynical but such is life. I’m nobody to comment on this industry. May God bless her soul.
